DEATH OF NATURE

The Death of Nature is a public art and education project that highlights the often-overlooked presence of nature. Through field research in Prospect Park, the project reframes nature not as background scenery, but as an active subject with its own vitality, presence, and spirit.

The project integrates a book, custom typeface, visual poetry, and a website into a cohesive communication system, presented through participatory activities that offer the public an accessible way to reconnect with urban nature.

Field Research
Through field trips and on-site interviews in Prospect Park,
I discovered a disconnect between visitors and nature
around them.

Insight
This insight led me to focus on three essential natural elements of the park—flowers, grass, and branches—creating small clay “graves” for each as a symbolic gesture to highlight their overlooked presence.

Outcomes
01- Website & Photography
Using Cargo, I built an interactive website featuring a series of posters created from field-trip photography. The visuals center entirely on flowers, grass, and branches, shifting attention from human activity back to the life of the park itself.

Typeface & Zine
02 - Type design & Zine
Through element extraction and visual research, I designed
a custom typeface inspired by the organic structure of tree branches and a zine that reflects on how urban nature slowly becomes a “background”—a silent, ignored presence.

Public Activities

03 - Calendar
Using Prospect Park’s historical timeline, I developed a set of participatory public activities. These events offer visitors new ways to reconnect with the park—transforming awareness into genuine engagement.
